World Cup
Despite poor performances by a certain team the World Cup was still enjoyed by everyone at the youth centre and young people participated in various activities including the opportunity to try out the food of other countries!

A YOUNG AMBASSADOR IN PONTELAND

A 16 year old who regularly attends Ponteland Youth Centre is the worthy winner of the Lions Young Ambassador award. Hannah Seeber has won the northeast District award, which covers all of Scotland and the north east of England, with her fruitful involvement in a number of different projects. Included in these is her commitment to the Youth Centre in Ponteland as a valued member of their Management Committee where she helped to set up a successful website for Connexions in enabling young people across the county to access opportunities after year 11. Sporty Hannah plays hockey for the school team and has qualified as a sports leader to help with younger players of golf, tennis and hockey. This is all voluntary work which uses up a lot of time.

The Lions’ award brings some financial reward and Hannah sees a challenge in the older generation’s perception of young people – the booze kids, the vandalism, the disrespect. She knows this is not the typical of most teenagers and wants to spend money on a project with the older people to help bridge the divide. She has decided to improve the gardens of sheltered housing at Athol House in Ponteland and has already met the resident lady who does most of the current weeding and planting. Hannah’s interest in gardens is likely imbibed from her father’s work in this field. She is making great plans with her task force to set the gardens up for more colour, more scent and as a beautiful place for the residents to admire and sit around in those wonderful days of summer.
